We use the injectable Juvedermâ„¢ Ultra Plus XC in our practice as the work-horse injectable for most needs. This injectable has the benefit of maximal longevity and strength for soft tissue, with the softness and pain-control required for sensitive areas like the lip.

Juvederm is very useful in the melolabial folds, to sharpen the jawline, redefine the lips, or to augment the cheekbone in a similar fashion to Volumaâ„¢. I think it only works well in the nasolabial folds when used conservatively, and frequently effacing the nasolabial folds provides only minimal aesthetic benefit.

This filler has limited side effects including bruising and temporary local discoloration. It should not be used directly around the eye. The filler is a great complement to surgical procedures and Botox. Patients should avoid ibuprofen (motrin, advil) and aspirin or any blood thinners to avoid a bruise or bleeding risk. Small degrees of swelling are likely afterword, which resolves rapidly, especially around the lip.
